Summer Salutations,

As many of you have heard, Alberta is moving into Phase 2 of the relaunch plan. This allows public pools, wading pools, and water parks to re-open when possible for them to do so safely.

The challenge we now face is scheduling time with our pool maintenance contractors to open the water park for the 2020 season. We have not currently done the Spring start up process as we were unsure if we were operating at all this season due the COVID-19 pandemic and we wanted to save costs of re-opening.  Normally, this work is done between late April and early June as our pool maintenance contractor also manages many of the City of Calgary’s public waterparks and wading pool and their time must be carefully scheduled.

Furthermore, we have extra work to organize to follow the updated health and safety guild lines by the province of Alberta. Those can been seen here

Also, we need the bathrooms to be open and operational for the water park to be operation to meet health and safety guidelines.  Bathrooms will require more cleaning and sanitation and staffing may be a challenge to meet these new health and safety regulations.  For now, the bathrooms will remain closed until the waterpark re-opens.

Finally, annual health and safety inspections by the City of Calgary must be completed prior to opening the waterpark.

In order to meet these new conditions, it will take more time than usual to open the waterpark. Also, with the sudden demand of work for our pool contractor, we’ll have to wait our turn in line as the larger and higher used waterparks in the City of Calgary will be opened first.

We do not have a scheduled re-opening date at this time.  Any date we post will be a random guess.  As more information becomes available, we will share it with the Somerset community.

Thank you for your patience and have a safe summer!
